How to choose and use resin diamond grinding wheels

Resin diamond grinding wheels are widely used for processing high hardness materials. When choosing to use a resin diamond grinding wheel, you should pay attention to the following points:

1. Performance matching between abrasives, bonding agents, and workpieces: Whether the performance of abrasive tools is excellent depends largely on whether the performance matching of abrasives, bonding agents, and workpieces. For specific processing objects, after selecting abrasives, the selection of binder formula is particularly critical.

Currently, resin grinding wheels are mainly used for grinding thermal spray materials. Because this kind of grinding wheel has the characteristics of good self-sharpening, not easy to clog, high grinding efficiency, low surface roughness value of the processed workpiece, low grinding temperature, and easy dressing, it has a wide range of applications.

2. Selection of grinding wheel particle size: Generally, the lower the surface roughness requirement, the finer the particle size. During the machining process, the grinding wheel step should be reasonably selected based on the grinding allowance. When the grinding wheel particle size is less than W20, the cleanliness of the grinding environment is required to prevent process contamination from affecting the surface roughness Ra value of the workpiece being processed.

3. Concentration selection: Concentration is a special technical term for superhard grinding wheels, that is, the content of diamond or CBN per unit volume in the working layer of the grinding wheel; the concentration of general resin-bonded grinding wheels is 75-100. If the concentration is increased, it will be meaningless because the holding power of the resin binder itself will be weak;

4. Selection of grinding system parameters: The grinding system includes grinding machine equipment, grinding wheels, process parameters, etc. The stiffness of the grinding machine spindle, anti-vibration measures, the inherent performance of the grinding wheel, balance and machining accuracy all have an impact on the selection of grinding parameters. Grinding parameters include grinding speed (grinding wheel linear speed, working reciprocating feed speed), feed speed, etc. The selection and adjustment should be made according to the grinding allowance of the workpiece, the grinding method and the specific conditions of the grinder.

5. Selection of grinding fluid: The purpose of using grinding fluid is to quickly derive the grinding heat generated during the grinding process and wash away the grinding debris in time. There are many types of grinding fluids, which should be reasonably selected according to the type of workpiece material and processing characteristics.

6. Dressing problem: Resin bonded diamond grinding wheels cannot be trimmed with a diamond single-edged pen. Due to its good self-sharpening properties, this kind of grinding wheel generally does not require dressing. When trimming is necessary, a mild steel plate can be used as the workpiece to trim the contour, and then a silicon carbide grinding wheel can be used as the cutting edge of the workpiece. Some materials are introduced, such as high-pressure water sputtering trimming, laser trimming, etc. , and electrolytic grinding for grinding and dressing at the same time.
