Paper cutter blades are critical components widely used in the papermaking and printing industries; the sharpness and service life of the blade significantly impact the machine's operational efficiency.
The choice of grinding wheel is crucial—both during the manufacturing of new blades and during the resharpening process after a period of use.
Currently, most manufacturers use conventional grinding wheels to sharpen blade edges, resulting in blades that lack sharpness and have a short service life. To address this industry pain point,
we have developed a CBN cup-shaped grinding wheel specifically designed for high-speed steel blades. The performance results are as follows:

Grinding Wheel Specifications: LB 200X100X10X12X60T; CBN80-V-3; C100
Coolant: Water-based grinding fluid
Workpiece: Paper-cutting blade for the printing industry (Dimensions: 1605mm L x 150mm W x 13mm T)
Grinding Process: Wheel speed: 2500 rpm; Traverse speed: 4.5 m/min. Infeed increment: 0.01mm (perform 5–15 passes before the next 0.01mm increment).
Timing of infeed is determined by the sparks: advance the wheel when sparks diminish or disappear.
Grinding Wheel Life: Approximately 500–600 blades of this size per wheel.
Customer Feedback: The end-users reported that blades ground with the CBN wheel were exceptionally sharp and produced a crisp sound during cutting.
The interval between resharpening increased from 100 reams of paper to 120–150 reams.

Overall Assessment: Replacing vitrified-bond white fused alumina wheels or resin-bond brown fused alumina wheels with CBN grinding wheels offers a more environmentally friendly process without increasing wheel costs.
The primary benefits are significantly improved blade sharpness and service life, leading to higher customer satisfaction.
